Lowriders Recordings is proud to present HALP‘s Tic Tac Toe EP.
The cheerful title track with the likes of Kissey on vocals is amazingly sticky and feels like a compendium of 30 years of electronic music, with seemingly effortless transitions between detroit house, booty bass and future music. The vocals of Kissey (Asplund) take us back to simpler days with her warm and seductive hypnoticness.
Baby treats you on a 2 step/house bumper which will kill you. The big chord synthline carrying the tune and vocal chops sprinkled on top!
Bek is like your 808 swingbeat ghetto track: redundancy to the bone covered with bubbles and some essential vocoder science. Waiting for an oiled muscle dude in lycra with a mullet body poppin’…..
SDUK makes Baby into a dancefloor stomper, whereas Starkey‘s interpretation of Field (which appeared on our Beatitude compiler) adds and enhances drama and suspense from the original, be it unheard, making it more melancholic and classy in a new suit.
And then there is the magical Krampfhaft remix of Tic Tac Toe, a worthy last track, schizofrenic, driven and recognizable as a mutated Juke screamer.
Check an interview by The Hungry Ear with Halp here.
Hudson Mohawke: Tic tac toe is a beast
Subeena: There are various parts of Bek I really like, that would be my pick between the originals. Baby is maybe not the kind of tune I’d play but I can definitely see it work dancefloor wise. Kramphaft remix is sounding really good.
Daedelus: This HALP release has some inventive sounds and excellent remixes, a little bit dancefloor mechanics going on for my taste,
… but those remixes help clarify and propel the tracks into more engagement.
DEV79: really dope ep! i’m diggin the evolution of halp’s sound and the remixes are all top notch. will def be playing this stuff!
Slugabed: halp’s best stuff yet! this stuff longs to be played loud in the cluuuub!
Om Unit: Really liking Krampfhaft’s remix the most but overall solid!
Torus: I think the EP is sick as a whole but my favorite track has to be babby, digging the synth work on that one! Oh and the kramphaft remix of tic tac toe is fucking huuuggge!
Kid Kameleon: It’s great, best thing yet from Halp – Baby’s my favorite, got a spin on NYE in my set. The Krampfhaft remix is great too.
Sduk: Halp keeps his amazing style whilst still moving forward, which isn’t easy to do. The entire package works so well. Its a release i wont forget when choosing my favourite tracks of the year in december.
Cardopusher: this release is HUGE! thanks so much for sharing it! loving a lot Tic Tac Toe but Bek BLEW me away, definitely playing it this next friday! tight stuff! liking a lot the remixes, specially SDUK and Krampfhaft 🙂
Profisee: Yeah this is solid. By far my favourite cut is Tic Tac Toe, love the ‘groove’. The production is really tight across the board.
+verb: solid release. halp delivers goodness and the remixers handle the task exceptionally well. nice start to 2012
Kelpe: Some strong tracks on this. I prefer the instrumental ends so Babby is my favourite – great track!!
Ingmar Planet KL (Dub Infusions, Swipe, Fyah, Whop!): The best I’ve heard from Halp ever and a giant leap forward for the young producer. Tic Tac Toe and the Krampfhaft remix are tits!
Nightwave: Really good release by Halp, loving Bek and Baby, will def play.
Toby (Svetlana Industries): Tic Tac Toe original is probably my favourite – it has a really nice 90s vibe which I dig. Bek is also interesting as a fusion of juke and Aphex & Zomby stylings. Crazy but good.
